Maui Coffee Attic, 59A Kanoa Street, Wailuku, HI 96793

Guest musician from Pueblo Colorado. Starting on violin at an early age Zach trained with an instructor (Mr. Lortz) with the Atlanta Symphony orchestra. Having been struck on the hand by Lortz with every increasingly terrifying mistake he turned to the antithesis of classical violin: the banjo. Then guitar. Then mandolin. And so on. At 13 he started playing in a bluegrass band and toured some of the festivals in the SE US such as Hiawassee, Lavonia, Cordele, and a host of other popular bluegrass venues that hosted Bill Monroe, The Osborne Brothers, Jim & Jess and the Virginia Boys, and Ralph Stanley. Once Keith Whitley broke a string and borrowed Zach’s guitar. Wanting to explore the more expressive styles of music with more stories to tell he listened to just about every style of music from classical, rock. Blues, jazz, reggae, and “world music”. Over the years Zach met such guitarists as Tony Rice, Roy Buchanan, Chet Atkins, Nokie Edwards, Tommy Emmanuel and added these blends to his style. Inspired by Strunz and Farah and Jacob de Bandolim, he picked up some Brazilian styles (e.g., Choro). Inspired by David Grisman and Djanjo he added some Dawg music and gypsy jazz to the mix. Having recorded on several albums (none of his own) he collaborated on such projects as Earth Songs narrated by Michael York.
